Albuquerque’s Calligraphic Society was founded in April, 1978. We are a lively, congenial group open to anyone interested in the fine art of beautiful lettering. The benefits of membership include:

Meetings

Members of Escribiente get together twice on most months, and details about each program and meet-up are emailed in advance to current members:

First Wednesday, 6:30pm:
We have online Programs (using Zoom) on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm. Video replays of all programs are available to members on our YouTube channel (some for a limited time per speaker's request). No programs are presented in January, July and December.

Programs are designed for all levels of calligraphy and range from presentations from guest speakers to hands-on projects. Programs last approximately one hour, and all members are welcome to stay for the monthly business meeting that follows.

Third Saturday from 1–3pm:
We meet in person in Albuquerque for social time on the third Saturday of most months. This is a chance for you to use our extensive Library, meet other members, get your questions answered, and work on various projects as needed. Check your email for details as the location may change.

In December, we meet in-person for a holiday party (details are emailed to members).

Newsletter

We regularly send members news and updates through our email list, so be sure to include your email address when you join! Our newsletters provide additional news of Society activities, workshops, classes, international conferences, hints, tips & techniques, book reviews and calligraphic contributions from our members. (Newsletter PDFs are posted on our website.)

Library

Our members-only library contains books, magazines and DVDs on calligraphy and related arts. (More information to the right.) We welcome donations of calligraphic books and supplies!

Exhibits

Escribiente sponsors occasional member gallery exhibitions along with displays at local libraries. We also organize the Calligraphy section in the Creative Arts building at the New Mexico State Fair held every year in September. This is a chance for every calligrapher, no matter what age or skill level, to exhibit creative work (you do not have to be a member to exhibit at the State Fair).

Workshops

Workshops are offered by international, national and local scribes. They are usually held from 9am to 4pm on a Saturday and Sunday. They are a great chance to learn from some of the best teachers of calligraphy. Membership benefits include discounts to attend workshops, and priority registration to our Spring and Fall workshops. Scholarships are also available.

 

Membership Fees

Dues run from July 1 – June 30 and reminders are send on July 1st.
