Exhibits
Escribiente sponsors occasional member gallery exhibitions along with displays at local libraries. We also organize the Calligraphy section in the Creative Arts building at the New Mexico State Fair held every year in September. This is a chance for every calligrapher, no matter what age or skill level, to exhibit creative work (you do not have to be a member to exhibit at the State Fair).
45th Anniversary Exhibition
The Love of Calligraphy

Escribiente celebrates its 45th anniversary with a member exhibition of calligraphic art at the Placitas Community Library, NM. “The Love of Calligraphy” showcases a diversity of styles and techniques from delicate ornate flourishing to abstract mixed media art.
Drop by the library on Saturday, February 25, 2–4pm and take home a personalized bookmark created by Escribiente calligraphers. As you watch the demonstrations, you’ll learn about how different tools – from metal nibs to pointed brush – are used to create a wide variety of different calligraphic hands.

The Art of Healing, curated by Regina Held, showcased meditative and uplifting works mainly by artists whose lives have been impacted by cancer. As part of the show, Escribiente displayed a special collection of calligraphic art in the main lobby area. Members also created custom bookmarks and ornaments to raise funds for the NMCC Foundation during the opening Reception on December 7th, 2019.
Members participating in the Escribiente display included: Vicki Bolen, Esther Feske, Janice Gabel, Julie Gray, Patty Hammarstedt, Beth House, Bill Kemp, Caryl McHarney, Elizabeth McKee, Trish Meyer, Jane Robertson, and Eliza Schmid.
Sales benefit the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation. The New Mexico Center Foundation raises funds to alleviate non-medical needs for cancer patients. 40 % of each art sale goes to the Foundation and is tax-deductible. More info at: GalleryWithACause.org
